Michael Jordan responds after being compared to Derrick Rose – NBA Update
Chicago Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf recently called Derrick Rose’s injury situation similar to what Michael Jordan went through back in 1985. He revealed that bringing Jordan back on the court hurriedly was something he still
considers as a mistake, and stated that he is no mood to repeat that mistakes in the case of Derrick Rose.
"I'm not going to let him back until the doctors tell me that it's absolutely safe for him to come back," Reinsdorf said. "I made that mistake with Michael Jordan years ago where I think we let him come back too soon. It worked
out OK, but it might not have.
"This time I'm not going to make that mistake. Until the doctors say he's 100 percent and they put their reputations on the line, he's not coming back."
On Monday, Jordan, who is the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats now, took some time to contemplate on the matter and admitted the fact that his view point on the situation has changed now that he is an owner.
"I have a unique perspective," Jordan said. "I've been a player, I've been in that scenario, and I would definitely consult with the player and I would never take his opinion, desire or feelings for granted.”
After not allowing Jordan to play most part of the season because of broken foot back in 85, Reinsdorf finally gave in at the end of the campaign. He believes his decision at the time had been a mistake. However Jordan thinks otherwise
and has a completely different opinion regarding the matter.
MJ always believed that if he was able to work in practice on a same level than he should have been allowed to take part in those games for reduced minutes. He suffered a broken foot in the third game of the season and it wasn’t
until the final 15 games of the campaign that he was allowed to make a return despite being declared fit to play by James Hefferon, the team doctor.
A lot of time has passed on but Jordan still thinks that his return was too late to salvage the campaign.
