Michael Katsidis and Graham Earl agree on a re-match – Boxing news
Michael Katsidis and Graham Earl both had a bout for the interim lightweight title back in 2007. Only a few can forget that fight, as the former two-time World Boxing Organisation’s interim lightweight champion Katsidis outclassed the former British and
Commonwealth lightweight champion Earl by winning the fight with a fifth round stoppage.
Katsidis was afterwards rated as one of the most exciting performers in the boxing world.
However, in August 2011, both pugilists will once again take on each other in the ring in a re-match. This time the bout will take place in Michael’s native country, Australia. The site is not confirmed yet but it is surely going to be a mouth-watering repeat
of their last bout.
Katsidis’ manager and trainer, Brendon Smith told the media Earl was eager for the re-match. He stated that the 32-year-old Duke of Earl has visited them many a times for it and finally his wish has come true.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Earl has been chasing this since we walked out of the ring four years ago. He has shown up at press conferences and even tried to enter our training camp in Thailand in the lead-up to the Juan Manuel Marquez title
fight to issue a challenge. We did promise him the rematch, and now his wish has been granted. What an amazing fight it will be for Australia.”
The 30-year-old Australian Katsidis is also very delighted on getting a re-match. He expressed his feelings by saying, “Graham is one tough man. It will definitely be a war and I love a war.”
The Britain, Earl, on the same note also remarked he desperately wanted to have a re-match and now is the time for his revenge.
“Ever since our last fight together I was promised a rematch and the chance to get my revenge,” Earl said.
He added that last time it was his backyard but now it is going to be in Katsidis’ backyard and it was his turn now. He also reckons that their re-match will provide a sheer entertainment for the fans.
