Michael Katsidis clobbers Michael Lozada while making his light-welterweight debut – Boxing news
Former two-time World Boxing Organisation interim lightweight title-holder, Michael ‘The Great’ Katsidis, made his light welterweight debut with a third round stoppage over the Mexican warrior, Michael Lozada, last Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Gold Coast
in Australia.
Katsidis, who fought in his native country for the first time since June 2006, was in complete control against Lozada from the very first round.
Katsidis won the first round after landing numerous body shots before doing the same in the second round. Katsidis did not stop and continued his onslaught in the third round as well forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Katsidis was pretty excited with his win and he told the media he felt really good at the new weight.
“I felt really strong at the weight. I know how Lozada holds at the weight division. Considering my power was very effective from the first round, I know I’ve got it there,” Katsidis said last night.
The Australian pugilist, Katsidis, has won 28 of his 32 professional fights, with 23 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, but he lost his winning track after Robert Guerrero secured a unanimous points’ victory over him back in April 2010 in Las Vegas.
Later on Katsidis was stopped in nine rounds by Juan Manuel Marquez in November 2010 in a thriller.
Therefore, it was a much needed win for Katsidis, who is currently rated as the world’s number five lightweight contender by the Ring Magazine.
Katsidis stated he is very happy as he is back on the winning track once again. The Australian in the meanwhile also admitted he had a lot of pressure.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “It’s a relief to get on the winner’s board. There was a certain element of risk given I’m stepping up in weight. Coming back home and performing on home soil after such a long time, it was very nerve-wracking.”
Let’s see if Michael Katsidis after this win regains his image, as he is certainly a very good fighter.
