Michael Katsidis ready to make comeback after strenuous training against Albert Mensah – Boxing news
Michael Katsidis, the former WBO and WBO Asia Pacific lightweight champion, will enter the ring with a new energy and will strive hard to nullify the effect of last three recent losses by collecting win against the Ghanaian Albert Mensah, the current IBF
International light welterweight champion, in a 10-round bout on April 13, 2012.
The above duo will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Vlad Wharton of Millennium Events. The ring for the event will be stretched at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The event will be co-headlined by the non-title 10-round bout between Artemio Reyes and Alan Sanchez and the whole special edition will be televised on ESPN2’s weekly boxing show ‘Friday Fight Nights’.
Michael, 31, has been in a total 33 bouts and boasts 28 wins. He has nailed 23 of his opponents by knockout and is going through a bad phase of his career. In his last five bouts Katsidis has collected three losses and juts two wins.
In addition, he lost his WBO lightweight gold as well and missed the chance to grasp several apex divisional titles. The Aussie proud also known as ‘The Great’, recently fought Ricky burns to take back what once belonged to him, the WBO lightweight gold.
His attempt was successfully nullified by Burns who grabbed a unanimous decision win in his favour. His recent losses forced Michael to find a solution fast and effective and he did do so by hiring the services of one of the best trainers, Justin Fortune.
His Friday night opponent, Albert, 29, resides at number one spot in his country and has been in a total 28 bouts. He has nailed 24 of his opponents and 10 of them via knockout. Also known as ‘The Tornado’, Albert is a decent pugilist who resides within
the top 50 rank.
Mensah is on a continuous long 15-bout win streak since his last loss to Samuel Amoako and has evolved substantially into a talented pugilist with the IBF International light welterweight gold round his waist.
In a recent interview, Michael expressed his resolve to make a comeback in the top ranks of the division and said, “They say a hungry fighter is a good fighter, but a starving fighter I don’t believe so. I can't say I felt really good before a fight for
three years. Being able to eat properly will finally give me the energy I need. I’m going to have a lot more vitality.”
When asked as to how he feels about his former losses, Katsidis simply said, “I’m good at fighting when the chips are down. You can have a cry after a loss or you can get back on the horse and go again.”
To some extent, the odds are in favour of Michael since he is making a comeback after almost five to six months and has undergone strenuous training under the supervision of a world class trainer.
