Gloucestershire county has signed experienced Australian batsman Michael Klinger as their captain as well as overseas player for the 2013 campaign.
The 32-year-old top-order batsman, who has significant captaincy experience for South Australia, has also played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866, Australia 'A', and Victoria in the past. He will join Gloucestershire at the start of the 2013 season and will replace Alex Gidman at the helm, who stepped down at the end of the 2012 season to concentrate on his batting.
The Melbourne-born Klinger started his first class career with Victoria in 2000 before moving to South http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 for the 2010/11 campaign. Overall, in the last four seasons, he has scored runs at an average of 47.37, smashing eight centuries as well.
Though Klinger has been sacked as captain in favour of South African import http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Garry-Bracewell-c67876 said, "We are delighted to be signing a player of Michael's quality and experience".
"He has proved himself adept at all forms of the game and has captaincy experience. We expect him to be available throughout the 2013 season. It is not easy to find overseas players who tick all those boxes and a lot of work has gone into finding the right man," he added further.

Klinger has to date played 98 first class matches scoring 5,849 runs, including eleven centuries and 28 half centuries and a top score of 255, at an average of 37.25. His List A record is more impressive, where he has amassed 3706 runs at an average exceeding 41 from 101 appearances. The List A tally also includes nine centuries and 24 fifties.
Gloucestershire finished bottom of the LV = County Championship last season, the ninth time in their history.
