Michael Klueh clinches Men’s 200m freestyle gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Michael Klueh of FAST Swim Team-C clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday, August 10.
Klueh, who proved his mettle in the preliminary rounds of the race, went full rampant in the final round and ensured his place on top of the medal rostrum for gold medal.
His gruelling pace remained half a body length ahead of his closest swimmer as he tapped the wall for first position with a timing of 1 minute and 48.63 seconds.
The champion was followed by Michael Wynalda of University of Michigan, who also succeeded in securing his qualifying spot, and surfaced on the finishing blockade as second position holder by producing a time of 1 minute and 49.05 seconds.
Wynalda was trailed by Matthew Barber of University of Arizona, who remained 0.92 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and occupied the podium for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 49.97 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Austin Surhoff of North Baltimore, who remained 0.69 seconds apart and reached the finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 1 minute and 50.66 seconds.
The 21-year-old Surhoff was chased by James Barbiere of Indiana University, who stayed 0.08 seconds slower and concluded his swim in fifth best place by producing a time of 1 minute and 50.74 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Alex Wold of Santa Clara Swim Club, who remained just 0.02 seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 50.76 seconds.
Wold was followed by Kenneth To of Australia, who remained 0.08 seconds behind and secured seventh position of the event with a timing of 1 minute and 50.84 seconds.
To was followed by Michael Weiss of Wisconsin Aquatics, who completed his swim in eighth best place by producing a time of 1 minute and 50.97 seconds.
In addition, The crowd admired exhausting efforts of Klueh, who continued his thrilling form in the playoff, after the session.
