Michael Klueh conquers Men’s 200m freestyle heats – US Open Swimming Championships
Michael Klueh of FAST Swim Team-C dominated the qualification rounds of Men’s 200m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Friday, August 10.
The 25-year-old Klueh experienced strong resistance from his following swimmer in the four-lap race but with his invincible efforts, he crushed their hopes and proved his audacity for first position.
Klueh remained just a stroke ahead of his following swimmer and made his way to the finishing wall for first position by posting a time of 1 minute and 49.27 seconds.
His gruelling pace remained 0.32 seconds ahead of Michael Wynalda of University of Michigan, who qualified into the playoff as second best swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 49.59 seconds.
Wynalda was traced by Matthew Barber of University of Arizona, who stayed nearly one body length behind and clocked a time of 1 minute and 50.46 seconds for third place.
Subsequently, Barber was trailed by Robert Hurley of Australia, who suffered a loss of 0.14 seconds from his foregoing finisher and secured fourth position of the race by reporting a time of 1 minute and 50.60 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Alex Wold of Santa Clara Swim Club, who was 0.18 seconds apart and completed his race in a time of 1 minute and 50.78 seconds for fifth position.
Wold was traced by Kenneth To of Australia, who remained only 0.01 seconds slower from his former finisher and settled on the wall as sixth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 50.79 seconds.
To was followed by James Barbiere of Indiana University, who stayed 0.14 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the finishing blockade for seventh position with a time of 1 minute and 50.93 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the discipline was secured by Austin Surhoff of North Baltimore, who remained 0.08 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 51.01 seconds.
In addition, Klueh was overjoyed with his fastest qualification effort and expressed his desire of achieving the same in playoff.
