Michael Klueh conquers Men’s 400m freestyle heats – US Open Swimming Championships
Michael Klueh of FAST Swim Team conquered the preliminary rounds of the Men’s 400m freestyle on second day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 8.
Klueh demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the eight-lap freestyle discipline and showed no mercy to his opponents, who were eyeing the fastest qualification spot of the event.
The 25-year-old Klueh showered his expertise in the 400m discipline as he made his way to the finishing wall for first position by posting a time of 3 minutes and 49.74 seconds.
His scintillating effort remained almost 3.25 seconds ahead of Michael McBroom of The Woodlands Swim Team, who qualified into the playoff as second best swimmer by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 53.00 seconds.
McBroom was chased by Adam Hinshaw of Palo Alto Stanford, who remained 1.32 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as third best finisher by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 54.32 seconds.
The 18-year-old Hinshaw was chased by Ryan Feeley of Badger Swim Club, who remained only 0.32 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 3 minutes and 54.64 seconds for fourth qualifying position.
Subsequently, fifth fastest position of the event was occupied by Nicholas Caldwell of Sarasota YMCA Sharks Swimming, who was only 0.24 seconds slower and ended his swim in a time of 3 minutes and 54.88 seconds.
Caldwell was followed by Jacob Ritter of Una HSC, who stayed half body length behind and surfaced on the finishing end as sixth fastest finisher by producing a time of 3 minutes and 55.57 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the discipline was obtained by Alex Wold of Santa Clara Sim Club, who remained almost half a second apart and tapped the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 55.93 seconds.
Wold remained in a lead of 0.15 seconds over Clayton Smith of Minnesota Aquatics, who secured eighth best qualification spot of the race in a time of 3 minutes and 56.08 seconds.
Furthermore, Klueh stated his desire of dominating the playoff and achieving gold medal of the event.
