Michael Klueh wins Men’s 800m freestyle gold medal: Day two – 2011 World University Games

Michael Klueh presented a heart-winning swim in the Men’s 800m freestyle discipline to capture the gold medal of the event on the subsequent day of the 2011 World University Games on Monday, August 15, in Shenzhen, China.
Klueh remained undisputed throughout the sixteen-lap event and earned the top spot on the podium, by submitting a time of 7 minutes and 52.31 seconds. His gold winning effort was 20.19 seconds above the world record of 7 minutes and 32.12 seconds, set by
Zhang Lin of China at the 2009 World Championships in Rome. Similarly, his effort was also 5.07 seconds slower than the Game Record of 7 minutes and 47.24 seconds, made by Chad La Tourette of USA, in Serbia, during 2009.
Klueh was trailed by Italian swimmer, Rocco Potenza, who stayed only 1.14 seconds behind the gold medallist and ended his swim in a time of 7 minutes and 53.45 seconds for silver medal. He was followed by Yohsuke Miyamoto of Japan, who was almost three seconds
behind the silver medallist and reached the podium for bronze medal, with a timing of 7 minutes and 56.29 seconds.
In the meantime, Heerden Herman of South Africa claimed fourth fastest spot of the event, as he failed to overwhelm the effort of his preceding swimmer, with a difference of only 0.10 seconds. Herman was in a lead of 2.96 seconds over Sergii Frolov of Ukraine,
who ended his swim behind him and reported on the finishing wall in a time of 7 minutes and 59.35 seconds.
Subsequently, David McKeon of Australia was sighted as the sixth best swimmer of the discipline, as he posted a time of 8 minutes and 01.59 seconds. He was chased by David Mosko of USA, who remained 0.18 seconds slower than McKeon and clocked 8 minutes and
01.77 seconds. Meanwhile, Wallace Eggleton of Australia settled as the eighth finisher of the event, by producing a time of 8 minutes and 02.78 seconds.
Furthermore, the podium finishers received their awards and accolades after the completion of the session.
