Michael Koncz says a rematch clause included in Pacquiao-Marquez trilogy – Boxing news
Michael Koncz, who is the business advisor of the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao, has revealed that a rematch clause is included in Pacquiao’s much-anticipated trilogy bout with the current World Boxing Association Super, World Boxing Organisation
and the Ring Lightweight World Champion, Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao, who is the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), and the Mexican Dinamita, Marquez, are set to lock horns on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Koncz confirmed about the rematch clause and said they have put the condition to save Pacquiao, just in case if something goes wrong.
“How unintelligent would it be, if we did not include a rematch clause just in case of some freak accident? Just in case some freak things happen in the fight, “Koncz told Ringtv.com.
Koncz commented on Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz’s recent bout in which Mayweather, who is a fight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, knocked out Ortiz controversially in the fourth round. Ortiz
since then is desperate for a rematch but he has been turned down. Therefore, Koncz believes Ortiz’s camp made a big mistake by not putting a rematch clause in the contract.
“They (Team Ortiz) made a mistake against Mayweather by not putting a rematch clause there,” Koncz said.
In the end, however Koncz remarked he has no doubts in his mind about Pacquiao’s win over Marquez once again.
“It has nothing to do with any doubt as to whether or not we think Manny’s going to win. It's just smart. It's just good business,” Koncz said. “There's no doubt in my mind that Manny's going to win this fight.”
Pacquiao verses Marquez 3 is one of the most anticipated bouts of 2011 and it is being considered as fight of the year. Moreover, the way their last two fights ended, it is fair to say that this is certainly going to be an explosive bout.
