Michael Leslie hopeful for superb run in upcoming snooker seasons – Snooker News
A classic run in the 2012 European Billiard and Snooker Association (EBSA) Under-21 Snooker Championship brought Scotland’s Michael Leslie on top and he was able to claim the European U-21 World Snooker Championship title. The young Scottish potter made
a superb run in the final encounter against Shane Castle and ousted him by the score line of 6-2 to lift the title at the Dedeman Hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Due to this outstanding victory, the Scottish cueman was nominated as a qualifier to take part in the upcoming two snooker seasons. Leslie missed the opportunity last year and failed to play in the professional circuit. He was very disappointed because of
missing the pro tour last time but this year he is back in business.
Leslie is now looking forward to make an appearance in the next two snooker seasons. Giving a two-year opportunity to the rookies so that they can polish their skills was a great move made by the snooker governing body, World Snooker. The snooker lovers
and players from around the globe have welcomed this decision and Leslie will be taking advantage of this opportunity too.
While speaking to the local media, Leslie said, “I was really disappointed having missed a great chance to turn professional. When I look back at it now, I think that it has worked out better for me as at the time, the winner only gained a one year tour
card.”
He added, “Hopefully, by having at least two years to climb the rankings will help will give me a better chance as I will have more time to settle and adjust to the professional circuit. My experience so far practising with some of the professional players
is that a poor safety or a missed chance usually means that you have played your last shot in the frame.”
Leslie will start his season campaign with playing his qualifying match of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event against England’s Paul Davison. After that he will participate in the qualifying session of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament
at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
