Michael Llodra, Yen-Hsun Lu win their third round matches – Wimbledon Championships 2011
World number 35, Michael Llodra of France, manoeuvred his way through the second round of the Wimbledon Championships, by defeating the Brazilian opponent, Ricardo Mello, on Thursday afternoon.
The 19th seed French took two hours and thirteen minutes to wind up the contest in the fourth set 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, to move in to the third round of the Grand Slam event in London, England.
Apart from the second set, absolute French domination was witnessed in the matchup, with Llodra orchestrating most of the rallies and beating his opponent in every segment of the game. He delivered 67 per cent of his first serve
on target and amazingly cracked 23 aces in the game to come out as the winner in the end.
Llodra was very quick to start the contest and wrapped up the opening set in merely 26 minutes, breaking Mello twice to reach 6-2. The Brazilian responded in the following set and belted his first serve break of the match to seal
the set at 6-4 to bring the match on even terms.
Mello failed to sustain his winning momentum in the next two sets, letting Llodra rise on top of the game again. The French dropped just five games to reel of the last two sets of the contest to register his 12th victory
of the running ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) season.
Llodra will take on Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei in the third round clash of Wimbledon to move one step closer to the quarter-finals. Lu made a huge upset in the second round when he defeated the 13th seed, Viktor Troicki
of Serbia in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4, to reach the third round of the Grand Slam event.
Lu took two hours and fourteen minutes before he surprised the tennis fans all over the world by disposing off the Serbian competitor in the second round. Troicki appeared in terrible form throughout the contest, spraying a number
of errant strokes all over the court and conceded 29 unforced errors, including eight costly double faults.
The Serb hung in the opening set for 50 minutes and dragged the set into the tie breaker after an exchange of serve breaks. Lu proved too good for Troicki in the tie breaker and clinched the opener at 7-6(5) to get one up in the
contest. The Serbian lost his steam in the following two sets, failing to put sufficient resistance to his opponent and eventually submitted the contest in the third set to let Lu in the third round of the mega event.
