Michael Llodra slaughters Arnau Brugues-Davi in the second round – Orleans Challenger 2011
Arnau Brugues-Davi of Spain squared-off against the French, Michael Llodra, in the second round of the Orleans Challenger Tournament, contested in France, on Thursday October 20th. The first meeting between the two players
ended up with an easy straight set victory for the second seeded French, Llodra. He clinched the match in just an hour with a final score of 6-4, 6-1. People gathered in numbers to witness their tournament favourite smash the Spanish out of his misery.
Both players lost five of their last nine encounters but considering the superior ranking of Llodra, he lost two of those matches in China Open and Shanghai Masters against two of the most talented players, Fernando Verdasco and
Milos Raonic respectively. It was obvious that French was the hot favourite to win the match and proceed to the quarters of the tournament.
Michael Llodra dominated the match as he was expected to and hammered the Spanish to all parts of the department. He smashed eight aces in the first set and registered a massive 93% first serve success rates.
Second seed French was not only physically tempering his opponent with corner to corner play but also cracked him down mentally with his guile and slenderness. Spanish was completely frustrated with his performance and lost his
concentration at the game that cost him the match.
One breakpoint in the first set went to the French that was good enough to take a lead and push his opponent on the back foot. He delighted the fans from his outclass display and was already to finish it off in the second set in
a grand style.
French struck seven aces in the second set; a marvellous 100% first serve success rate and rounded off the game with 71% second serve success rate. He clinched two breakpoints in the meantime and thumped his opponent who could
only win single game throughout the second set.
It was a pretty tamed performance from the Spanish who was totally outclassed by the veteran in all aspects. He couldn’t capitalize on his serves at all and was totally occupied throughout the contest. He just had 38 points throughout
the match whilst his opponent pocketed 58.
A total mismatch at the pitch proved to be a good practice forum for the second seeded French veteran who is the tournament after a dismal first set exit for the tournament top seed, Feliciano Lopez.
Michael Llodra will lock horns with his country mate, Mathieu Rodrigues in the quarter-finals of the tournament. It is expected to be an extremely close contest as both the players have proved their in the previous meeting and
would be eagerly waiting to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
