Michael Lumb replaces http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Kieswetter-c51708 for Australia Twenty20s
England have called back Michael Lumb into their Twenty20 squad against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 as Craig Kieswetter was ruled out of the series.
The team announced on Friday that Kieswetter has to undergo a minor surgery for an abscess and Michael Lumb will be taking his place in the Twenty20 squad.
Geoff Miller, the national selector read in a statement, “It is unfortunate that Craig has been ruled out of the Twenty20 series but he will have an opportunity to make a full recovery.”
Miller stated that Lumb has demonstrated great ability in the shorter format of cricket and said that the team was delighted to be able to call a player of his calibre in the squad.
30-year-old Lumb had been struggling with a broken foot since August 2010. Ironically, he was struck by a shot from Kieswetter when he was fielding in close against Somerset. He had earlier struggled for form after a successful run at the 2010 ICC World
Twenty20 which England won after beating Australia.
Kieswetter and Lumb also had a good run in the shorter format when the pair successfully opened in the World Twenty20 final against Australia. Kieswetter smashed a hard-hitting 63 and guided his side to the victory.
Miller however hoped that Kieswetter will have time to recover in time for more international honours as he performed well during “England Performance Programme” this winter. He said that the South African born will be available for the England Lion’s tour
of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at the end of January.
Lumb is currently playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 Bulls and will be joining the team in Adelaide where they are scheduled to play against Australia in their first Twenty20 on 12 January 2011. The two-match Twenty20 series will wrap up at Melbourne on 16 January.
England will then move on to play a seven-match One Day series against the Aussies. The English team is being hailed by the cricket world and the enthusiasts as they were successful in casting away the twenty-four year long spell of winning the Ashes series
in Australia. They won the series and retained the urn as Australia slumped to an embarrassing 3-1 loss on home ground.
