Michael Maguire, coach of Wigan Warriors, still hopeful of a Final win - Rugby

Michael Maguire’s outfit is not losing their grip on their Grand Final dream this year after their 18-26 defeat against the Saint Helens, in the Super League Qualifying play-off, on Sunday, September 18. Although Sunday’s defeat at DW Stadium
has complicated their passage to the Grand final, they will still move into the remainder of the play-offs with formidable strength.
Maguire now wishes history to repeat itself. Last year, his squad was defeated by Rhino Leeds but still this did not hamper their path to the Super League Grand final.
This win by Sinats has earned the outfit a weekend off with a home tie. Wigans will return to the Stadium again on Sunday, for the knock-out of the semi-final showdown.
While comparing this year’s situation to last year’s, Maguire stated, "We learned the hard way last year, when we had to play through, so it's another opportunity for us. We need to make sure we get everything right this week, there's a chance for us.”
Maguire explained that it is within Wigan’s own hands how they lead up to the Grand Final this year too. If they manage to cash it the right way, no body know they might get lucky this year too with the Super League Grand final win the second time, in a
row.
Saints performance has been against expectations, because so far they had not won even a single clash out of the previous games played by them so far.
Tries from Paul Wellens and Jonny Lomax of Saints were extremely crucial for their win, but Pat Richards and Sean O'Loughlin from Wigans closed in the 24-0 gap created by Saints in the initial spell of the game.
Tries were scored by Wellens and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook which have also contributed to Saints’ win.
While speaking about the loopholes within Wigans’ game, Maguire admitted that his team gifted away too many opportunities on the critical moments of the game, which were correctly materialised by the opponents.
According to him, if his players would have continued with the consistent good performance, which was sporadic in yesterday’s clash, the celebration must have been on the alternate side.
