Michael Maguire hopes to replicate success with South Sydney Rabbitohs - Rugby
Michael Maguire, the departing Head Coach of the Challenge Cup winning Wigan Warriors, says that he will follow the path to success with his future franchise, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and try to mirror his term with Wigans.
However, he clarified that he did expect to win matches but was not promising anything.
Maguire could not have been graced with a more special exit by his team. The coach left with a Challenge Cup title under his belt after grounding a 28-18 win over Leeds Rhinos at the Wembley’s Headingley Stadium.
This victory was not only a special one for the coach, who was ending his tenure at the club, but it was special for the entire franchise as it is Wigans’ first Challenge Cup in sixteen years after already bagging the Super League title.
While paying tribute to his injured players after Saturday night’s clash, the coach shared that he is very proud of his outfit, which managed to sweep to the Challenge Cup. He also acknowledged that the win was because of team-work and no single person could be pin pointed for making it happen. According to him this has been achieved after a great deal of sacrifice and commitment was made.
This fixture was studded with two tries scored by Jeff Lima that led him the Lance Todd trophy as the Man-of-the-Match of the final showdown of the Challenge Cup.
When Lima was asked about his accomplishment, he answered by saying that he is at a complete loss of words to express his true feelings on this proud moment in his life. He further added that maybe the feeling is that way because it has as yet not completely hit him, but nonetheless he was proud of himself and his squad on the whole for this achievement, which will be written down in history.
Lima also added that all he was doing was carrying out what is job as a player entailed him to do nothing else was on his mind.
