Michael Maguire of Warriors hoping for perfect performance against Crusaders – Rugby League news
Michael Maguire of Wigan Warriors is hoping for a perfect game tonight against the Crusaders, which will secure their standing within the play-offs.
Crusaders on the other hand want to avoid the wooden-spoon status after Friday night’s game, at the
Wigans hold a fat chance at the league leader shield’s if they manage to bag victory against the crisis-hit Crusaders tonight. However, this chance can only be materialised if the Hull FC win against the league toppers, Warrington Wolves, at the KC Stadium.
The foremost thing on Maguire’s mind is to march into the play-off campaign in good form.
Wigans have enjoyed a good stint under Maguire’s lead. Since he reigned in as Warriors’ coach the franchise won their first title of Super League Games 2010, in ten years. Wigan’s strength had translated perfectly within the league’s hierarchy, as they topped
it for quite some time.
This upward trend of Wigans led to their first Wembley Challenge Cup title with a 28-18 win. It was a proud moment in history when Wigans defeated Leeds Rhinos on August 27, to grab their Challenge Cup 2011.
However, Wigans’ spell of successive wins was broken, a week away from their massive Wembley win, in a clash against the Warrington Wolves that ended with a 12-39 final score break-up.
This match not only ended match-winning streak of Wigans but also cost them their top position within the league ladder.
While speaking about the real essence of success, Maguire added, “It’s all about performance. Who wins at Hull is something we can’t control. But what we can control is who is in front of us and how we play. We need to make sure we progress and improve from
last week, and go into the finals on a good win.”
“We’ve got a big month ahead of us and it’s about getting the kickstart this week and being ready for what’s ahead,” he added.
According to Maguire, the games are all performance which is all in the hands of the players how they wish to counter their opponents. Only this part needs to be tweaked the rest cannot be controlled.
