Michael McBroom occupies Men’s 500 yards freestyle gold – AT&T Winter National Championships
Michael McBroom of UT-ST occupied gold medal of the Men’s 500 yards freestyle on opening day of the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships in Austin, TX, USA on Thursday, November 29.
McBroom crushed hopes of his opponents in the 500 yard discipline as he overpowered the fastest qualifying swimmer, Matthew Barber over the finishing blockade for top position.
Barber, who dominated the preliminary rounds of the event, failed to withstand ruthless efforts of McBroom and was unable to secure the title.
McBroom remained marginally ahead of his challenger and tapped the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 16.08 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Cristian Quintero of USC-CA, who stayed 0.48 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall for silver medal by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 16.56 seconds.
Similarly, Barber remained only 0.06 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and managed to secure third position of the race by producing a time of 4 minutes and 16.62 seconds.
Barber was followed by Nikita Lobintsev of TROJCA, who suffered a loss of one and a half second from his and appeared on the finishing wall for fourth position by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 18.10 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Clark Smith of DSA-CO, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower and concluded his race in a time of 4 minutes and 18.28 seconds.
Smith was trailed by Evan Pinion of DYNAGA, who was 1.50 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 4 minutes and 19.78 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Nicholaus Johnson of USC-CA, who stayed almost seven seconds behind and ended his race in a time of 4 minutes and 26.42 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Michael Domagala of AGUAMR, who ended his race in eighth place by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 28.06 seconds.
In addition, McBroom received a huge round of applause from the audience for his scintillating form and received medal at the prize ceremony of the event.
