Michael McBroom seizes Men’s 1650 yards freestyle gold – AT&T Winter National Championships
Michael McBroom of UT-ST seized gold medal of the Men’s 1650 yards freestyle on third day of the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships in Austin, TX, USA on Saturday, December 1.
McBroom stifled hopes of his opponents in the event as he faced no trouble and led the race from the start. With his exceptional pace, he gained a prominent lead over his challengers and reached the wall for the title.
He enjoyed a lead of almost two-laps over his closest competitor and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 14 minutes and 40.10 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Ervin Pinion of DYNAGA, who stayed 16.37 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 14 minutes and 56.47 seconds.
Pinion was trailed by Cristian Quintero of USC-CA, who was four and a half body lengths behind and tapped the wall for third position with a timing of 15 minutes and 00.79 seconds.
Quintero was traced by Jordan Wilimovsky of NU-IL, who stayed 11.12 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 15 minutes and 11.91 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Theodore Singley of USC-CA, who stayed 1.50 seconds apart and reached the wall with the timing of 15 minutes and 12.41 seconds.
Singley was traced by Cary Wright of USC-CA, who stayed only 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 15 minutes and 12.47 seconds for sixth position.
Wright remained 1.08 seconds ahead of James Barbiere of IU-IN, who finished his race in seventh place by touching the wall with a timing of 15 minutes and 13.55 seconds.
Last position of the race was obtained by Kevin Litherland of DYNAGA, who was almost seven seconds behind and clocked a time of 15 minutes and 20.32 seconds.
Furthermore, McBroom was extremely contented with his top finish in the race and raked medal and accolade after the event.
