Michael Mincham secures Men’s 1500m freestyle gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Michael Mincham of Waterhole Swimming Club Inc secured gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on last day of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Thursday, March 21.
Mincham faced tough competition from his competitors in the first half of the 1500m event but with his strong commitment, he managed to ascend on the scorecard for first position. With his astounding pace in the second half, he faced no trouble and secured
the title.
Mincham stayed in a commendable lead of almost half pool length over his closest competitor and tapped the wall for first position with the timing of 15 minutes and 32.13 seconds.
The champion was followed by Matthew Myers of North Shore Swimming, who was nearly 17 seconds apart and concluded his race in a time of 15 minutes and 49.28 seconds.
The second fastest swimmer was trailed by Dylan Dunlop-Barrett of New Plymouth Aquatics Swimming, who stayed almost four seconds apart and seized the podium for bronze medal with an effort of 15 minutes and 53.23 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the event was secured by Troy Balvert of St Peter’s Swimming Academy, who stayed nearly 14 seconds slower and hit the finishing end with the timing of 16 minutes and 07.76 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was followed by Philip Ryan of Waterhole Swimming Club Inc, who was nearly four seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 16 minutes and 11.50 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was secured by Jonathan Pullon of Howick Pakuranga, who was 3.95 seconds slower and hit the finishing end by touching the wall with an effort of 16 minutes and 15.45 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the event was obtained by Alex Cox of Waterhole Swimming Club Inc, who stayed nearly 22 seconds by hitting the wall with the timing of 16 minutes and 37.01 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Jeremy Tasker of Neptune Swimming Club, who ended eighth in a time of 17 minutes and 11.54 seconds.
Furthermore, Mincham received medal at the prize ceremony of the event.
