Michael Morse’ four RBIs help Washington Nationals rout Arizona Diamondbacks, 9-4 – MLB Update
Washington Nationals’ left-fielder, Michael Morse was extraordinary right through the game as he went 1-for-4 including four RBIs and a leading homer in the Nationals’ 9-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Arizona on June 5.
The four-game series was levelled 2-2 after the Nationals’ convincing victory.
In the first two innings, the batters were unable to put any run on the score-board as the pitchers threw some exemplary pitches in perfect areas. The Nationals led off with 1-0 during the third inning when Jayson Werth hit a sacrifice fly towards right-field
and Roger Bernadina scored the first run of the game.
No run was added from the fourth to seventh inning. The pitchers raised the potential of their team with outstanding pitches. The batters got out by hitting sluggish shots. The Nationals’ starter, Jason Marquis had very good control on the ball as he pitched
five innings with an ERA of 3.84 and went score-less on three hits. He struck out four batters and allowed three walks on his 73 pitches.
The Nationals were on top in the eighth inning as they blasted three runs while the Diamondbacks opened their scoring account with a single. Laynce Nix and Danny Espinosa both contributed two runs while Wilson Ramos hit a one-run homer (386 feet) towards
left-field to complete a three-run campaign.
On the other hand, Kelly Johnson homered (346 feet) to left-field at the bottom of the eighth inning to move the score-board 4-1. The game was tied 4-4 when the Diamondbacks’ batters stepped on the gas and smashed three runs in the ninth inning. Stephen
Drew, Chris Young and Miguel Montero each added one run for the Diamondbacks during the ninth inning.
The Diamondbacks’ manager Kirk Gibson said, “If you look at the whole game, we are not throwing at him. We are trying to throw him tight. We don't want him to get his arms out. I will show you the scouting report if you don't believe me.”
Additional 10th inning passed without any runs as the pitchers threw impressively. In the 11th inning, the Nationals accelerated their lead 9-4 by posting five runs. Rick Ankiel walked, Jerry Hairston Jr. scored a single run and Bernadina
occupied third base. Werth, Ankiel and Bernadina singled off left-field while Morse struck a one-run homer (454 feet) to centre-field.
