Michael Morse starts rehab games and feels comfortable on the plate - MLB Update
On Tuesday, Michael Morse appeared in a rehab game and gave clear indications that his return to the season is not far. Playing for Class A Potomac Nationals, he drew a walk but the positive thing was the ease with which he held his composure and confronted
the throws.
His quest to make the Washington Nationals’ line-up earlier than an expected June 8 is realisable.
Leaving the Nationals without a clean-up hitter in the season, he had suffered strained lat muscle and did not show up for even a single game. In his absence, the Nationals had to call players from the Minor Leagues and had to live with relatively in-experienced
line-up.
Bryce Harper, whose premature debut to the Majors was triggered mainly by the paucity of hitters. Luckily, he befitted the Nationals’ need precisely and quality of hits he generated in the season made him a dependable hitter for the club.
However, the Nationals’ appetite for power-hitter has not exhausted yet. The fact some of the players like Ryan Zimmerman and Danny Espinosa are prone to volatility and lacking consistency, Morse’s significance has not reduced even an inch.
Therefore, he will earn the call as soon as he is good enough for the Majors.
Penchant for making come-back is evident from the way Morse is practicing every day. As he stated, he is giving some serious exercise to his arms regularly, to check if there is any pain left.
His arms were in peace in whatever kind of revolutions he resorted to. This is going to translate into a better performance on plate.
“Everyday I’m doing a throwing program, from 60 feet, 90, 100, 120,” Morse said. “I’m throwing more now than I ever threw in my life. I’m throwing 100 throws a day. The ball is coming out nice and easy. It feels great. I don’t feel any pain or nothing. If
there’s a positive out of all this, my throwing mechanics are pretty sound.”
With couple of more rehab games, it will be clear as to how comfortable he feels against the quality pitches. This will also help the management understand as to what extent he has reached the level of preparations needed for the Majors.
