Michael O'Neill tips Shamrock http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 to win UEFA Europa League tie against Rubin Kazan
Shamrock Rovers have put their UEFA Europa League progression hopes in jeopardy after failing to win any group stage encounter in Europe. As things stand, they are at the bottom of the group table.
The Hoops manager, Michael O'Neill, has admitted that the Irish outfit have been unlucky in the European tournament and tipped his side to win the upcoming group stage encounter against Rubin Kazan.
Shamrock, who recently won the domestic league recently, have failed to perform well in the European competition, raising many question marks against the manager. However, O’Neill shrugged off any thoughts suggesting that he has
not taken the European league seriously.
The former Newcastle United player admitted that the Rovers had a nightmare start to the Europa League campaign, where they lost 3-0 against Rubin Kazan at home, and have failed to recover since then.
Speaking on the chances of striker Gary Twigg starting the upcoming crunch encounter against the Tatary, O’Neill revealed that the Scottish national has been instrumental for the Irish outfit but he’s unlikely to feature in the
upcoming match as the former Derby county forward is struggling with his fitness.
There is a little arguing the statement that Twigg has helped Shamrock rovers in difficult times and has been instrumental for them in difficult times. His goal scoring record speaks for itself, having scored 48 goals in 69 appearances.
“He has had health problems and he tried to solve them without surgery and surgeons. As far as he is ready to play here in Russia, It’s difficult.” The former Wigan Athletic man was quoted as saying.
Speaking on the match, O’Neill said:
“It will be one of the most difficult games for us this season. We have already played against them and we know our strength and capabilities. I think Tottenham Hotspur and Rubin will progress to the next round but in football
anything can happen, anything is possible.”
O’Neill revealed that Shamrock rovers have not played a football game since the start of this month and it will be difficult for them to play in extreme weather conditions.
