Michael Oliveira takes on Sergei Melis on February 11 – Boxing news
Michael Oliveira, Brazil’s number two middleweight, will take his undefeated winning streak for the very first time to Canada to take on the 29-year-old Sergei Melis hailing from Estonia in an eight-round non-title bout.
Michael, 21, has never fought in Canada before and this will be his first time that he will show his epic performance, impressive punching ability, and the reason why he still has an invincible winning streak to the Brazilians residing in Ontario, Canada.
The clash is scheduled to take place on February 11, 2012 in a pay-per-view organised by United Promotions and Hennessy Sports jointly.
The squared ring will be staged at Hershey Centre situated in Mississauga. Michael, infamous as The Brazilian Rocky has in a very young age collected 16 wins in 16 bouts. The prolific aspect of the young lad is his knock out percentage and efficiency. The
young gun has collected 12 of his wins by knocking his opponents out cold.
The lethalness of Michael is evident from the fact that he has been rated as the world number 14 middleweight by World Boxing Council. The Brazilian Rocky was bound to make his inaugural ring appearance in Canada at Quebec City last year on December 17 but
his health didn’t allow him to compete and he was eventually hospitalised.
Michael’s February 11 competitor is a bit more experienced individual and has been in a total 25 times in the ring. Sergei nicknamed as the Baltic King has won 18 of his brawls and lost seven. Sergei is not that much of a fierce pugilist. He relies heavily
on his resilience capability and does not try much to knock out his opponent. It is this reason why he has collected just seven wins by knock out.
Michael’s promoter Carlos Oliveira who is also the proud father of the young lad said, “We’re looking forward to showcasing Michael to a large Brazilian community in Canada. We’re expecting a very warm welcome from Brazilians there who have already started
purchasing VIP packages.”
The same enthusiasm was also shown by Adam Harris owner Hennessy Sports who said, “We’re thrilled to be adding Michael Oliveira to an already exciting card that will air on Rogers Television. We are expecting a good turnout from the many Brazilians living
in the Greater Toronto area.”
The extravaganza will further consist of a 10-round collision between Samuel Vargas and Manolis Plaitis and a 6-round take on between Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook and Chris Aucoin. Samuel and Manolis will fight to grasp the vacant Canadian Welterweight title.
