Question:

Michael Orozco vs. David Beckham?

I am talking about class and definitely NOT talent with these two players:

After American Michael Orozco deliberately elbowed a Nigerian player in the chest during Wednesday's olympic match vs. Nigeria and was justly ejected, he offered all the fans, his coach, his team and his country the following:

"[The Ref ] saw that it was a red card, and there’s nothing I can do about it...I'm really not going to think about [it] anymore, life goes on"

Compare this to David Beckham in World Cup 1998 after an immature retaliation caused him to be ejected during a match vs. Argentina:

"I will always regret my actions. I want every fan to know how deeply sorry I am."

1) It took David Beckham years to earn back the appreciation and respect of the fans after apologizing. Should Orozco's apathetic and unapologetic attitude sideline him indefinitely?

And on a universal philosophical note:

2) Is it possible to forgive someone when if they never ask for it?

  1. We love you cousin & very proud of you....... Race has nothing to with this!! Life goes on!

  2. DAVID BECKHAM!!!!!!!!!

He is amazing. Especially when he does his free kicks.

Also did you see his 50 yard goal or his 70 yard goal.

I think those goals are proof enough.

  3. There is no way Orozco is going to play for Mexico..we are loaded with talent on defense

  4. Good parallel example.

1a) imho he should not wear the uniform again. Let him play for Mexico.

2a)Yes, but its admittedly difficult for me.

  5. Why should he apologize???  It was an accident, not deliberate.  These things happen in football. If you can't handle an elbow to the chest, get off the pitch.

  6. Micheal Orozco es mi RAZA

  7. Orozco, because Americans might start hating on him about his race. He took it like a man and said things happen and life goes on. And that is the truth, that's what people might not want to hear but its the truth.

As for Beckham he had to apologize if not the English people would have been upset every time he got called up to the national team.

  8. For once Beckham was one of the main players of that team, Orozco is not. The closes thign right now would have been Altidore, Adu or Mc Bride. In addition they were playing in the quartefinals, here is was just in the group rounds. Also i do not think it was a red car that early into the game, but that was a call for the ref, it could have gone either way. In these games the US was just unlucky, particularly in the game against the dutch

  9. I think the two situations are different.  Beckham is from a country that puts soccer (football) above all other things.  So the fans weren't able to forgive and forgot that easily.  On the other hand soccer is growing in the USA; 2, 4, 6 years from now their will be new USA fans that won't even know about Orozco's red card.  So I think Orozco is not going to see the same reaction as Beckham did.  Orozco will see some of it, but no where near what Beckham did.

The only thing Orozco should be worried about it the US coaching staff.  They may not forget anytime soon.
