Michael Owen: It's tough getting a game
Former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen has not had many chances at Manchester United since joining at the start of last season, but the front man says that he does not have any regrets about joining the Red Devils.
Since coming to Old Trafford, Owen has participated in 39 games, but a majority of those appearances were restricted to the bench. He was never going to be the first choice striker at United and he knew it when he joined them, however the long term hamstring
injury in the final of Carling Cup last season made matters worse.
Michael Owen had been sidelined since the final at Wembley, but he finally recovered to take part in the match against Stoke City. However, once again, his re-appearance after his recovery was restricted to the bench. This season, Manchester United have
brought in Javier Hernandez and he has become an instant favourite with the manager and fans alike. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 is always the front line
striker for Ferguson. There is also an array of young strikers at the club which include names like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Welbeck-c10233, who will both be back next season after their loan spells.
The current contract for Michael Owen will expire at the end of the season, and the future of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 striker is still uncertain. Owen is already 31 and it is not clear if he would get an extension at Old Trafford.
United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson had earlier stated that Owen has a part to play at the club, but nothing was mentioned about a new contract for the former Liverpool player.
It would be interesting to see if Ferguson decides to play Owen in the FA Cup match against his former club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. One thing is for sure- if he gets a chance to play and knocks one over his former employers, it may go a long way towards extending his
stay at Old Trafford.
Regardless of the lack of opportunities, and speculations about http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355’s future, the 31 year old remains optimistic and said that he was prepared for all of this when he came to the club.
Owen said: "I knew when I came here that I wouldn't play every game and it would be a bit different to what I was used to. But I will sacrifice playing every game for the opportunity to play and train with the top players and work under a top manager”.
The former Real Madrid striker went on to say that he has enjoyed every minute of being a United player, and he has no regrets. Owen added that there is no doubt that every player wants to play all the time, but whatever chances he has got at United, he
has made the most of them. He said that he has scored some valuable goals at the club, and would continue to serve the team whenever he gets the chance.
Michael Owen said that as a United player, he feels very proud and wears the red Jersey with all the respect it deserves. Owen ended by saying that he would continue to fight for a place in the team, and hope and optimism are the only things that have kept
him going so far.
