Michael Owen has come out and said that Manchester United will not be afraid to come up against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League this season after losing to the Spanish giants last season in an extremely one-sided final at
Wembley. A match that was hailed as a spectacular footballing spectacle fell flat in the end as Barcelona ran rings around the Red Devils by winning the match 3-1 in the end. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 whilst it was Rooney
who managed to get United’s only goal of the match.
Sir Alex Ferguson had left out both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 out of the Manchester United line up whereas Michael Owen was on the bench for the match. In fact, Manchester United’s top scorer Dimitar Berbatov was left out
of the squad altogether for the UEFA Champions League final which took place back in May of 2011. As the UEFA Champions League kicks off once again, Owen is looking forward to getting some game time for the Red Devils as he is on his way back to full fitness.
Undoubtedly, Barcelona will once again be the team to beat this time around as the defending champions and Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson will be hoping that his team which seems to be the perfect blend of youth and experience can get to the
final once again this time around.
Michael Owen spoke about United’s upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign in his latest interview, he stated, "If we played Barcelona again in the final, then we'd have to do something differently because they obviously outplayed
us on the night.  Then again, I don't think there's any shame in losing to a team like that. We're not ashamed of how we played at Wembley but, if we played them again, then I do think we'd have to look at adopting a slightly different approach.”
He also said that on the evidence of United’s defeat in the UEFA Champions League final, Manchester United are quite off the mark in comparison to Barcelona. However he also added that, the final encounter at Wembley was a one
off encounter and that United won’t be frightened of playing the Catalan giants once again.
Manchester United’s striker also said, "I can't wait (for the UEFA Champions League). The beauty of playing for a club like Manchester United is that you have a good chance of winning every competition you take part in.” Manchester
United kick off their UEFA Champions League encounter in the second week of September when they travel to Lisbon to face off against Benfica.
