http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 going nowhere: Sir Alex Ferguson
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has, yet again, assured that striker Michael Owen is going nowhere this season.
Owen, who joined Manchester United on a free transfer from Newcastle United in 2009, has yet to make any sort of contribution to his new club this season and it is highly probable that the player’s contract wouldn’t be renewed by the end of the current season.
The player’s cameo appearance against Stoke City was his 8th for the current club, out of which only three were starts. With the current form of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736, it is highly unlikely that Owen’s stay
would be prolonged at Old Trafford. Loan players http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Federico-Macheda-c13475 would also be returning by the end of the current season.
United number 7 is however still part of Ferguson’s plans for this season and the player has fully recovered from the hamstring injury suffered in the Carling Cup final. With Macheda loaned out to Sampdoria, it is anticipated that Owen would be needed to
make some appearances along with Hernandez, Rooney or Berbatov.
"Now he is back fit, Michael will always be considered part of the squad and he will play in some big games. I have not spoken to him about next season. There is no need for me to discuss that at the moment. He is a terrific player and a role model in the
dressing room. He has never missed a session while he has been fit," stated the Manchester United manager.
The manager conceded that it was Owen’s physical shape which made the decision to let Macheda go easier for him. However, the manager was not happy to send Macheda to Sampdoria and stated that it was the player’s decision, not his.
"Federico feels he has been neglected on the international front. This has given him an opportunity to play in Italy, where they can see him every week. We would have preferred him to play in the Premier League and he had opportunities to do that with several
clubs."
The manager however, respected the player’s decision, stating that every player wants to represent their home country on the International level and that is exactly what Macheda wanted. Manchester United has a lot of forwards to choose from and have the
luxury to put any pair in front to challenge their opponents.
