Manchester United striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Owen, is reported to have injured his thigh muscle and will be out of action for a further six weeks.
He sustained the injury on November 2, in the Champions League clash against Otelul Galati. At first the injury wasn’t thought to have much consequence, yet initial scans and tests have shown that the injury could mean that the striker wouldn’t be available
to play till at least the Boxing Day.
"Michael has a thigh muscle injury and will be out for six weeks or so," an official release from Manchester United has said.
In a career that has been blighted with injuries, this latest news does not command much surprise in the changing room or over the many millions of Manchester United fans all over the world. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809/Newcastle United/Real Madrid striker has been
prone to multiple types of injuries throughout his professional career.
The striker’s first serious injury was in mid-April, 1999, against Leeds while he was playing for Liverpool. It was a hamstring injury that seemed persistent and took over a year to heal after thousands of dollars spent on specialised treatment; and yet
will continue to haunt the striker for the rest of his life. Owen admitted later that the injury has crippled him of his former pace and control.
After finally managing to regain some form, Owen sustained mild injuries throughout the 2003/2004 season for Liverpool. He still managed to net enough goals to grab the attention of Spanish giants Real Madrid, who signed him the following transfer window.
Probably the only reason Owen didn’t attain many injuries during his stay at Real Madrid was the fact that he spent most of his time on the bench and not on the pitch. The Spanish side sold him off the following season (for twice the price they paid for
him) to the Toons of Tyneside.
Three months later, while playing for his new club Newcastle United, he was taken down by a challenge from Spurs keeper Paul Robinson and broke his metatarsal. He was ruled out for the next three months. Even after undergoing a major surgery on his foot
in March 2006, the striker could barely continue playing and ended up aborting his return after playing one game in the end of April.
Of course then he was quickly rushed into the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 squad for the World Cup 2006. And of course he sustained a rather graphic injury to his cruciate ligament against Sweden in the group stages. He was ruled out for the next nine months.
After staying out for more than a year, things finally began looking good for Owen - woops, spoke too soon - he injures his thigh in pre-season and misses the opening game. This thigh injury tends to recur every few months and marred the rest of Owen’s professional
career. The striker still managed to perform satisfactorily for the Magpies the next two seasons, averaging a goal every three appearances.
In January 2009 however, Owen cracked his ankle bone during a match against Manchester City and performed under par for what was going to turn out to be Owen’s last year at Newcastle.
Funnily enough, after leaving Newcastle, Owen’s agents released a brochure trying to explain to potential employers that the striker isn’t injury-prone.
So even when Manchester United signed the striker on a free transfer, on a relatively meagre salary, many were critical of Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752, and his decision to sign a professional injury dummy.  These critics wera ll proved wrong however, due to Owen’s consistent
habit of scoring at the most crucial of times in the most crucial of situations.
This is the second time that Owen has been injured while playing for Manchester United, the previous coming in his first Champions League start for United in 2009.
With a bench like that of Manchester United, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Welbeck-c10233, Owen’s six week absence should be nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
