The former England national team striker has admitted that Italy’s standout player against England was Andrea Pirlo but he also admitted that fact that England could’ve have a similar player in their ranks if Paul Scholes was

Michael Owen has come out in the aftermath of England’s exit from the 2012 European Championships and admitted that they could’ve done better against the Italians in the quarterfinal if Paul Scholes was in their squad. Michael
Owen was a part of England’s squad which took the field in 2006 FIFA World Cup but since then injuries have hurt the Englishman’s career and Roy Hodgson overlooked him in the end for the 2012 European Championships.
On the other hand, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson convinced him to come
back and play for the Red Devils.
Scholes was instrumental in Manchester United’s title charge which fell short in the end but he could’ve been approached to play for England once again, something that was not done before the European Championships.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 and Ashley Young both missed their spot kicks. In the end, it was disappointment once again for
the Three Lions who were below par in their display against the Azzurri.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 said, "Pirlo was awesome but we have a player of a similar age and equally as good. Unfortunately he wasn't there - Scholes. Easy for people to say 'until we keep possession better we will never win anything'. We are
not as good as others at doing that.”
He added, "We played to our strengths but are just not quite good enough. We were hoping to 'do a Chelsea'. If you are not the best team then you have to find an alternative way to win. The other option is to forget results for
a while and start from scratch playing a different style.”
