Michael Owen not surprised by Liverpool’s downfall
Former Liverpool striker and current Manchester United number 7, Michael Owen has said that the current 12th position of his former club in the Barclays Premier League reflects where the club truly is right now and has also insisted that the club’s
recent fall from grace hasn’t surprised him at all.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 had a glittering career when he was a Liverpool player. He won 4 major trophies, including a UEFA Cup, during his 8 year stay at Anfield.
Owen made a cameo appearance against his old side in the F.A Cup tie which was Liverpool legend, Kenny Dalglish’s first game as the manager since 1990, when he lost the English League title to Arsenal on the last day of the season.
The defeat at Old Trafford was yet another blemish on the already tarnished progress report for the Merseysiders this season. In the Carling Cup, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 and Blackpool, both newcomers,
dominated them with humiliating home defeats.
Off the field, Liverpool are becoming very stable since NESV took over, but the take-over never really reflected as an improvement on the score sheet under Roy Hodgson, who was recently replaced by Dalglish.
Owen thinks that the club is currently going through a transitional phase and has been overly reliant on 2 players for a long time now, which is very risky as an injury to any of those two always turns out to be devastating for the whole team.
He also admitted that, although he has left the club, he still has a lot of knowledge about what happens inside, but refused to disclose any details.
Owen feels that during his time at Anfield, Liverpool's game was built on the basis of passing and movement- something that hasn’t been seen for a couple of seasons now. He also pointed out that the lack of academy players coming through at the club has
also been harmful for the club and this problem should be rectified soon.
