Michael Owen out with new Hamstring problem
Manchester United forward Michael Owen has suffered a fresh injury blow and will be out for couple of weeks. The forward’s injury has created a bigger problem for Manchester United as Wayne Rooney is also out.
Owen was already out of action due to a groin injury he suffered in Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Sunderland. But, after recovering from that injury and before Tuesday night’s Carling Cup win over Wolverhampton Wanderers he
picked up a hamstring strain during a training session.
Owen on his latest Injury blow
He said about the injury: ”It's not going great, I had a bit of a tight groin a while ago and I've trained for a week preparing for last night's game but then I had a setback with a different muscle injury. Unfortunately, that
ruled me out for last night and will rule me out for a few weeks as well.”
Owen has been very unfortunate in his career in terms of injuries and has suffered series of hamstring injuries. The last time the United striker picked up a hamstring injury was in February during the Carling Cup final at Wembley,
that ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
He further added: “"I got injured in the cup final and then subsequently this season I was in the squad for the first 10 games or so. But unfortunately, because of a training ground injury the other day, I'm going to be out for
the next few weeks, which is disappointing. It's all part and parcel of football. Everyone gets injured. Hopefully, I can come back and be as strong as ever."
Ferguson’s limited strike options
With Wayne Rooney also injured with an ankle problem, Sir Alex Ferguson will have to rely on the services of Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov and the Mexican Javier Hernandez when they play their rivals and neighbours, Manchester City
on the 10th of November. Both players are in top form for United this season; Dimitar has scored 6 goals in 9 games and the Mexican has managed 4 goals in the last 3 games.
These injuries leave Sir Alex short of options on the bench, with only Federico Macheda and Tiago Correia, nicknamed Bebe, available for selection. Macheda has not scored this season but Bebe managed to open his account in the
Carling Cup match against the Wolves.
Owen on Hernandez
In an interview with BBC, Owen was full of praise for Javier Hernandez, nicknamed Chicharito (Little Green Pea), saying that he has made a very good impression at the club and the players appreciated his good goal scoring ability.
He said the Mexican always has a smile on his face and enjoys his football but urged him to keep working hard as the demands of this club are such that if you don’t perform in one game, you could be out in the next, such is the strength of the entire squad.
Owen on Rooney saga
About the Rooney contract saga, he said that it has had no effect on the rest of the squad and that everyone is happy now that it is over. Rooney is a world class striker and we are glad he will be at this club for the next 5 years.
He was of the opinion that a lot of stuff was made in the media just to fill the papers considering he is a big player and playing for the biggest club in the world.
Owen may not be the most feared strikers in the world but he is one of the most respected in the game. After his horrible time at Newcastle United, he was given another chance when United signed him on a pay-as-you-play deal for
2009-10 season.
Injuries have played a big part in Owen’s career, making this his biggest weakness. The United fans will be hoping to see him recover sooner rather than later, as a lot of games are coming thick and fast and they need all their
players fit.
