The former Real Madrid striker who was expecting a contract extension at Manchester United has been released by the club as his one year contract ended with the Red Devils after the league season drew to a close, however Owen
has made it clear that he is far from retiring just yet...
Owen has confirmed that Manchester United have not offered him a contract renewal thus he will be a free agent this summer transfer window. Manchester United who finished second in the latest league season and lost the league title
to Manchester City on goal difference have released Owen from their squad as a result but the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 striker has made it clear that he is still interesting in playing football but will not take a demotion to the Championship.
Owen was hardly used by Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 last season as he was bogged down with injuries and at other times even when he was fit, the Manchester Untied manager relied on the likes of Welbeck and Rooney to start for the Red Devils. Michael
Owen said that he won’t be calling it a day on his career just yet.
The former Newcastle United forward said, "At 32, I definitely owe it to myself to have two or three years and play a bit more - but for somebody else. I am only 32. I might look a bit older than that but looking at the likes of
Scholesy and Giggsy, it doesn't half fill you with a lot of motivation and confidence. They are playing into their mid-to-late thirties and I still feel as if I am reasonably young.”
He added, "When I wake up my body feels good even though I have had a few injuries. I don't think the Championship would be an option if I am totally honest. I don't feel I have lost the ability to score goals or play at a high
level. I have been playing and training with top players all my life and that was one of the attractions in going to Man Utd. We will wait to see where that is. If it is not the Premier League then I may look farther afield.”
