Michael Phelps aiming to compete in seven events at the 2011 World Championships
One of the greatest swimmers of all times, Michael Phelps has declared his plans of competing in seven events at the upcoming 2011 World Championships in Shanghai this July.
Michael said that he will compete in four individual events and the three relays at the world titles in Shanghai.
Phelps, who won eight-record gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, demonstrated some inferior swims during his participation at three different stops of 2010-11 USA Grand Prix Series.
Phelps conquered gold medals at Beijing in the events of 200m Individual Medley (IM), 400m IM, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 4*100m freestyle relay, 4*200m freestyle relay and the 4*100m medley relay..
In addition, the American champion lost his 200m and 400m IM titles to his competitor, Ryan Lochte at the second stop of USA Grand Prix Series in January. Subsequently, he gained his titles at the next stop of Grand Prix in Indianapolis but failed to defend
his 200m butterfly title at the next stop of the Grand Prix in Michigan.
Phelps lost his 200m title for the first time and it is of significant importance that whether the Olympian drops the 200m butterfly or the 200m freestyle from his events roster at the World Championships.
Phelps said that if he is able to dominate his seven events at the world championships then he will continue the same at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
"It all depends on what happens this summer. If I'm able to swim a good program, a strong program, and we feel confident about it going into the Olympic trials next year, then that will be the event schedule that I'll swim," he said
While addressing to a question regarding his participation in more events, he said, “But we can add or subtract and see what happens. We just have to make sure we're at our peak this summer so we'll know what we need to do get me ready for trials and hopefully
the Olympics."
Furthermore, after facing failure, Phelps has been integrating his grueling swimming strategy with an extensive training program and claims to meet the expectations of his fans at the upcoming world stages
