Michael Phelps claims Men’s 400m IM title in Berlin: 2011 FINA World Cup
Olympic champion, Michael Fred Phelps gave an inspiring performance on day one of the seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series in Berlin, Germany, on Saturday, October 22. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 400m Individual Medley and Women’s 100m breast-stroke
finals.
Michael Phelps was the hot favourite to win the battle against his rivals, Japan’s Daiya Seto and Japan’s Yuya Horihata. The American swimmer touched the finishing wall in a record breaking time of 4 minutes and 01.49 seconds to earn 400m IM title. The silver
title went to Seto in a time of 4 minutes and 02.85 seconds, while Horihata claimed bronze medal with a mark of 4 minutes and 09.05 seconds.
Colombia’s Yannick Lebherz posted an impressive time of 4 minutes and 09.75 seconds to earn fourth place, while Chase Kalisz of United States claimed fifth spot by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 12.80 seconds. Lukasz Wojt of Poland earned sixth position
by powering the finishing wall in mark of 4 minutes and 12.85 seconds, whereas, the seventh spot went to Portugal’s Diogo Carvalho in a time of 4 minutes and 13.45 seconds.
Markus Deibler of Germany was placed eighth spot in a blot of 4 minutes and 13.93 seconds, while Lewis Smith of Great Britain earned ninth position by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 13.96 seconds. The tenth position went to Maksym Shemberev of Ukraine
in a time of 4 minutes and 15.55 seconds, whereas, Joseph Roebuck of Great Britain settled for eleventh in a time of 4 minutes and 15.63 seconds.
The twelfth position went to Denmark’s Chris Christensen with a time of 4 minutes and 15.71 seconds and Ward Bauwens of Belgian claimed thirteenth position by posting a time of 4 minutes and 17.82 seconds.
In the meantime, the Women’s 100m breast-stroke title was taken over by Sweden’s Jennie Johansson in a time of 1 minute and 05.60 seconds. Denmark’s Moller Pedersen Rikke posted an impressive time of 1 minute and 05.64 seconds to win the silver title of
the platform, while the bronze medal went to Australia’s Sally Foster with a sparkling time of 1 minute and 06.54 seconds.
Andrea Kropp of United States of America earned fourth place honours by hitting the finishing wall in a time of 1 minute and 06.79 seconds, while Lisa Fissneider of Italy claimed fifth position by posting a time of 1 minute and 06.94 seconds. The sixth and
seventh positions were taken over by Korea’s Darae Jeong and Dorothea Brandt with a time of 1 minute and 06.96 seconds and 1 minute and 07.01 seconds, respectively. Last, but not the least, Jenna Laukkanen of Finland settled for eighth position in a time of
1 minute and 07.82 seconds.
