Michael Phelps clinches Men’s 100m butterfly title in Montreal: 2011 Canada Cup
Day three of the 2011 Canada Cup got-off to a flying start with the impressive performance of Olympic champion, Michael Phelps, in the Men’s 100m butterfly race at Montreal, Canada, on Sunday, July 3.
Phelps put up a scintillating swim and nabbed the 100m butterfly gold medal with a winning time of 51.32 seconds. More importantly, he broke Benjamin Starke’s time of 51.65 seconds, set in June, 2011. Furthermore, Phelps improved his previous record of 51.75
seconds, set back in March, 2011.
After the win in the respective meet, Phelps said, “I'm really happy with that and I know I need to do more training. It’s races like these that I think help me more mentally than anything else. ... Being able to still see that I can pop a good race here
and there gives me a little bit of a confidence.”
Phelps is a fourteen-time Olympic champion, who won six gold medals at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He clinched eight gold titles at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The champion swimmer has also won many gold medals at the World Championships and
Pan Pacific Championships.

seconds. Daniel L Madwed wound up fourth in 54.26 seconds, whereas, John A Wojciechowski earned the fifth position in 55.04 seconds.
