Michael Phelps clinches Men’s 200m Individual Medley title:  2011 FINA World Cup, Berlin
Michael Phelps stunned Berlin’s arena by winning the Individual Medley title on the final day of the 2011 FINA World Cup series in Germany, on Sunday, October 23. The session of the meet conducted Men’s 200m IM and Women’s 200m butterfly races.
Phelps kept his rivals, Great Britain’s James Goddard and Japan’s Hidemasa Sano behind throughout the race and posted a record breaking time of 1 minute and 51.89 seconds to win the Men’s 200m Individual Medley title. In the meantime, Goddard clinched silver
medal in a nerve wrecking time of 1 minute and 52.57 seconds and Sano settled for bronze title in a mark of 1 minute and 54.31 seconds.
Meanwhile, Chad Le Clos of South Africa claimed fourth position in the respective race by posting a time of 1 minute and 54.60 seconds and Kenneth To of Australia settled at fifth position in a time of 1 minute and 54.70 seconds. Moreover, Yuma Kosaka of
Japan claimed sixth position by posting a time of 1 minute and 55.98 seconds and Diogo Carvalho of Portugal settled for seventh spot in a time of 1 minute and 57.17 seconds. Finally, Daiya Seto of Japan picked eighth spot in a mark of 1 minute and 59.02 seconds.
In Women’s 200m butterfly event, Ra Choi Hye of Korea thrashed out Alessia Polieri of Italy and Allison Schmitt of United States by hitting the finishing wall in a fastest time of 2 minutes and 04.48 seconds to settle for gold title. In the meantime, Polieri
finished with silver medal in a time of 2 minutes and 07.02 seconds and Schmitt settled for bronze title with a mark of 2 minutes and 07.20 seconds.
Otylia Jedrzejczak of Poland picked fourth spot in a time of 2 minutes and 07.38 seconds, while Martina Van Berkel of Switzerland claimed fifth position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 07.43 seconds. Hali Flickinger of United States earned sixth position
in a time of 2 minutes and 08.60 seconds, whereas, Veronika Popova of Russia had to settle for seventh spot in 2 minutes and 09.01 seconds. Lastly, Franziska Hentke of Colombia finished eighth in 2 minutes and 09.53 seconds.
The 2011 FINA World Cup is an exciting series for all young guns and senior level swimmers of Sweden, Australia, Ukraine, United States, Great Britain and Canada to prepare themselves hard for their futuristic meets of the swimming. The fifth round of the
seven stop FINA World Cup series is set to take place in Singapore, from November 4-5.
