Michael Phelps clinches Men’s 200m butterfly title: Day four – 2011 FINA World Championships
Michael Phelps won the title the of Men’s 200m butterfly meet on day four of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) organised 2011 World Championships on Wednesday, July 27, in Shanghai, China.
Phelps, who lost the same event twice from Wu Peng at the two different stops of 2011 USA Grand Prix Series, accumulated his strength and conquered the gold medal of 200m butterfly, by reporting in a marvellous time of 1 minute and 53.34 seconds. His time
was almost two seconds away from his own championship and world record of 1 minute and 51.51 seconds, made at the 2009 World Championships.
He was followed by Japanese swimmer, Takeshi Matsuda, who remained 0.67 seconds behind Phelps and submitted a time of 1 minute and 54.01 seconds for silver medal. One of the strongest rivals of the American, Wu, failed to overwhelm Phelps for the third time
in the same year and occupied the podium for bronze medal, by producing a time of 1 minute and 54.67 seconds.
Wu’s team-member, Yin Chen, acquired the fourth fastest spot of the four-lap swim, as he was 0.33 seconds behind Wu and finished his swim in a time of 1 minute and 55.00 seconds. Chad Le Clos of South Africa obtained fifth finest spot of the event, as he
remained 0.07 seconds behind his preceding swimmer and concluded his swim in a time of 1 minute and 55.07 seconds.
He was followed by Pawel Korzeniowski of Poland, who proved his eligibility for the sixth best spot of the swim, with a timing of 1 minute and 55.39 seconds. Dinko Jukic of Austria was the seventh position holder of the event, as he marked a time of 1 minute
and 55.48 seconds. He was followed by Bence Biczo of Hungary, who secured the eighth spot of the event, by ending his swim in 1 minute and 55.53 seconds.
The arena was delighted with the winning effort of their favourite swimmer, Phelps. Furthermore, Phelps said that he will try to exceed the expectations of his fans in the remaining events.
