Michael Phelps earns victory in 200m back-stroke meet: 2011 FINA World Cup, Moscow
United States’ veteran and Olympic champion, Michael Fred Phelps put up a wonderful show in the back-stroke meet at seven stop 2011 FINA World Cup series in Moscow, Russia, on Wednesday, October 19. The session of the meet held the Men’s 200m back-stroke
final heat.
Phelps started off the race in strong fashion and beat his rivals, Artem Dubovskoy of Russia and Feiyi Cheng of China by touching the finishing wall in a thrilling mark of 1 minute and 53.24 seconds to clinch the 200m back-stroke title.
Phelps captured six gold medals at the 2004 Olympics, in Athens, while he also notched 8 gold titles at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing. In addition, he grabbed four gold medals in the Men’s 100m and 200m butterfly, 4x200m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley
events at the 2011 World Championships edition, in Shanghai. Furthermore, he claimed 5 gold medals at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, in Irvine. At the moment, Phelps is preparing for the next year’s Olympics in London.
The silver medal of the respective race went to Russia’s athlete, Artem Dubovskoy with a mark of 1 minute and 53.52 seconds, whereas, the bronze title was secured by China’s Feiyi Cheng with a time of 1 minute and 53.75 seconds.
In the meantime, Jacob Pebley of United States of America earned fourth place honours by posting a time of 1 minute and 54.03 seconds. Additionally, Anton Anchin of Russia picked fifth place with a blot of 1 minute and 57.79 seconds, whereas, sixth place
went to Alexander Tikhonov with a mark of 1 minute and 58.16 seconds.
Russian swimmer, Sergey Makov also produced a wonderful swim over his competitors in the arena and claimed seventh place with a time of 1 minute and 58.50 seconds. Sergey Makov’s compatriot, Pavel Kosmynin secured eighth position in the respective race by
posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.02 seconds.
Finally, toppers including Phelps, Dubovskoy and Cheng were awarded accolades and cash prizes after the session’s completion. The third event of the seven stop World Series is scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany, from October 22-23.
