  1. To Emily: I couldn't agree more !!! And to you, the asker, you need to to shut up and quit making accusations against Phelps when you have no proof to back them up. Michael Phelps is a phenomenal athlete, and example of someone who comes along once every millenia or so. We are likely to see him again in 2012, and possibly even in 2016. He's here to stay- and YOU are the one who is the poor loser. Sour grapes don't make good wine, pal.

As for Bolt, I agree that he too is exceptional- and it's not his fault that he's been forced to play second banana to Phelps. THAT has nothing to do with him personally- it has more to do with the way Phelps has been portrayed by the US press than it does with Bolt's acheivements. I have been watching some of the other sports as well, and the age controversy in gymnastics is really proving to be a distraction. It's taking air time away from people like Bolt, and the US baseball and softball teams. Some of the other sports have actually been shoved to the wayside by this, in fact. NBC has always had problems of this type, in every Olympics it has covered. I follow the equestrian sports closely, and I don't enjoy having to watch them from a second or third hand point of view. On the main NBC broadcast, the achievements of our riders ( who just won a gold in show jumping yesterday, after the first jump off in modern Olympic history) have been virtually ignored. It's almost as if they don't exist, in fact. That's SAD, and I wish it weren't true. And what about the athletes in the sports you never get to see, such as modern pentathalon, for example?? I have watched NBC's coverage of several Olympics now, and never in my life have I seen this event televised. Don't you think these athletes DESERVE at least SOME credit? In the minds of the powers that be at NBC, apparently not.

I am not even going to touch on the drug issue, except to say that Emily is right. Phelps is probably the most tested athlete in history, and the IOC has samples on him going back YEARS, not just a few days or weeks. The same can be said of every other athlete we have seen who has won anything, and even a few of those who haven't, like most of the Greek track and field team. There were 15 people from that country who were expelled from the Games for doping over the last couple of days. One of them had been heavily favored to win at least some of the events in that sport- and she was sent home only hours before she was supposed to compete for the first time. The US has yet to have ANY accusations of drug use leveled against it at these Games, except by people like you who are jealous of athletes like Phelps. What does that say about this??

  2. there have been lots of american come in here and embarrass themselves and their country with their poor sportsmanship when losing. I truly feel sorry for the many many reasonable Americans who see their country shamed by the attitudes of these people, not all americans are idiots but the ones who are tend to be the loudest...

  3. What exactly is your question?

What proof do you have the Phelps is on drugs?

What does Bolt's arrogance have to do with Phelps alleged drug use?

Obviously Phelps is not on drugs being that he is tested extensively for drug use...more than the requirement for other athletes.

  4. ok, you've posted 3 questions now bashing michael phelps and/ or the USA, so I don't buy your defense that you were just proving a point. Most of your posts and questions have consisted of bashing american athletes and the USA in general. Why do you feel the need to put down other athletes and countries? It just reflects poorly on you and your country. You can celebrate your country and Usain Bolt (who is amazing) without bashing others. It's sad.

  5. well said... these Americans just jealous... just face it y'all dont hae the fastest man in the world.  we gave you credit for Phelps... now give credit to Bolt which is due to him and stop hating and being badmind... envious... malicious i coudl go on and on

  6. Do you really think that this hasn't been looked into? The man wins 8 straight gold medals and obviously, the first thing on everyone's mind is STEROIDS.

He is tested, regularly, twice monthly.  And I've heard that he's been tested daily throughout the olympic games. They have samples of his blood in labs that they are using to try and trace back any prior drug use for years.

Is no one capable of being a good athlete anymore? As an American, I am truly insulted that you say we know nothing about sportsmanship. We have some of the greatest athletes in the world, and we truly recognize when others do too. Don't take one prior experience you've had and try to pidgeon-hole the rest of the country. You know absolutely nothing about us. Now go take your Track and Field medals and leave us the h**l alone.
