Michael Phelps mother is at the Olympics,but his father is mentioned. Where and who is his father?

After years of fighting, his parents divorced. High school sweethearts, they had separated before Michael was born, gotten back together, and then split for good in 1992. The kids went to live with Debbie. Michael grew very close to his mother, while Fred faded from the picture. To this day, he has very little contact with his father.

a few nights ago they said at the age when he was 7 his mother became a single mother i never heard about the father.

I heard they got divorce when micheal was little,and he's not really in the picture,and that his mom,Debbie has been pretty much raising him on his own.I saw this in an NBC documentry,so im guessing it's true.

I think his father should have been there.On the other hand,he hasn;t had that much part in Micheal;s life.I wonder if he was watching
