Michael Phelps not interested in coaching after his retirement
14-times Olympic gold medallist, Michael Phelps has declared that he will not become a coach after his retirement in 2012.
While talking to the Associated Press today, Phelps declared that he will retire from competitive swimming after his participation in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Phelps, who won eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, believes that he has achieved everything he wanted and now is the time to focus on other important matters in his life.
While expressing his concerns after retirement, the 25-year-old Phelps declared that he will put more effort into his foundation and will try to increase the level of sports countrywide and worldwide.
In addition, Phelps uttered that he can do anything but he will not become a swimming coach. He justified his decision by saying that coaching is a very difficult task and it requires a lot of tolerance.
While talking to the Press, he said, "No, no. I could not coach. I don't know if I have the patience to coach,"
The 25-year-old Phelps said that he has been involved in swimming for more than 18 years and has remained under the guidance of his coach, Bob Bowman throughout his career. He explained that he is aware of the fact that how much trouble he caused his coach
to reach the top of the international stage.
"I see what I put my coach (Bob Bowman) through, and if there was a kid that I was teaching that did the same stuff, I'm not sure how I would react. Now I see why he has gray hair. I've put him through so much stress over the last 11, 12 years," Phelps added.
Furthermore, Phelps has been trying to promote swimming through various activities. Phelps’s new video game “Push the limit” is about to launch next month in collaboration with the Xbox 360. In addition, he has been trying to increase his efforts in promoting
swimming internationally by working with more swim schools.
Besides, many swimming elites believe that Phelps will become a wonderful coach just like the former American champion, Mark Spitz, whose record of seven gold medals was improved by Phelps at the 2008 Olympics.
