Michael Phelps pie chart, help with percentage?!?!?

I made a pie chart of all of michael phelps' eight gold medal times. and now i have to say the percentage of each. how do i do that? the total minutes of my chart is 22 minutes. For example, what percentage is 3:29 of 22 minutes?

  1. you should first get everything into the same units. use seconds.

    first multiply 22 by 60 (60 seconds in 1 min) = 1320 secs

    then multiply 3 by 60 = 180. now add 29 to 180 (because its 3 mins, 29 seconds) = 209

    now that both values are in the same units you can find the percentage.

    if you want to find what percent 1 is of 2, you divide 1 by 2, then multiply by 100

    so to find what percent 3:29 (or 209 secs) is of 1320 secs, you divide 209 by 1320, which equals 0.1583333. now multiply by 100 to get 15.8333%

    on a pie chart this is close to 1/6.
