Michael Phelps seeking to work more for his foundation and his sport after retirement
The 2008 Beijing Olympics Champion, Michael Phelps has announced that he will try to work more for his foundation and promote his beloved sports after his retirement in 2012.
Phelps revealed this news while talking to The Associated Press today, pronouncing that the 2012 London Olympics will most probably his last Olympic Games.
While talking to the Press, he said, "There are a few things I want to accomplish that I think are very doable, and if I do that, it doesn't matter how many world records or how many gold medals, how much money you make. If I can say I've done everything
I wanted to do, I can say I feel like my career has been success. At the end of the day, that's all that matters."
The North Baltimore based swimmer, Phelps has always been in a league of his own. He has earned 14 Olympic gold medals, out of which eight were won at the 2008 Beijing Games. In doing so, he set a new record of winning eight gold medals in a single Olympic
Games, while the previous record was held by former American Champion, Mark Spitz, who earned seven gold medals at the 1972 Olympic Games.
Phelps, who claims he will put his swimsuit in a drawer after the 2012 Olympics, is already working on promoting his sport through various ways. He has been associated with many products after his record-breaking performance at the 2008 Olympics while his
new swimming simulation game is going to launch in June, 2011.
Phelps stressed, "After I retire, I waant to work more with my foundation, I want to work more with my swim schools and try to promote swimming countrywide and worldwide."
The 25-year-old revealed his ability to work with children and his foundation as his obsession. The American Champion’s decision of retirement will surely put a halt on the US medal tally but his dedication towards his foundation and promotion of swimming
among the new generation will definitely enhance the level of sports worldwide.
