Michael Phelps seizes Men’s 200m IM gold – London Olympic Games
The fifteen-time Olympic champion, Michael Phelps of USA seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on day six of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 2.
The 27-year-old Phelps went full rampant in the four-lap IM discipline to capture his 16th Olympic gold medal. With his fascinating effort, he stayed considerably ahead of his challengers and stepped on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
He gained a marginal lead over his opponents in the first lap and continued his supremacy throughout the discipline, making his way to the victory stand for gold medal with an effort of 1 minute and 54.27 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained 0.63 seconds ahead of the world record holder and his teammate, Ryan Lochte, who finished second in the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 54.90 seconds.
Lochte was chased by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who remained 1.32 seconds apart and proved his mettle for bronze medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 56.22 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Thiago Pereira of Brazil, who stayed almost half a second behind and settled on the finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 1 minute and 56.74 seconds.
The Brazilian player was chased by Kosuke Hagino of Japan, who was nearly 0.60 seconds slower from his former finisher and finished fifth in the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.35 seconds.
Hagino was chased by his team-member, Ken Takakuwa, who remained one body length away from him and surfaced on the finishing wall as sixth position holder with an effort of 1 minute and 58.53 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was obtained by James Goddard of Great Britain, who completed his race in a time of 1 minute and 59.05 seconds.
Goddard was traced by Markus Deibler of Germany, who was 0.05 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 59.10 seconds for eighth position.
Phelps was very happy with his victory while he also received acknowledgment from the spectators.
