Michael Phelps trying to find time to market his new Xbox game – Swimming update
14-times Olympic gold medallist, Michael Phelps, is trying to manage his schedule that he can support the launch of his new video game on the Xbox named Push the Limits.
Push the Limits is a swimming simulation game for the Xbox 360 that will allow the participant to compete with Phelps in a wide range of swimming events. The official trailer of the game was launched in February 2011 while the game is expected to enter the
market in June 2011.
25-year-old Phelps is unable to find time to promote his game due to his busy swimming schedule. Phelps’s schedule was initially constrained by the Austin, Indianapolis and Michigan stops of the 2011 USA Grand Prix Series during January, March and April
2011.
Now, the Olympic champion faces the dilemma of competing at the next stop of the USA Grand Prix in Charlotte during May and then at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai this July.
Phelps has been attached with many products after his record winning performance at the 2008 Olympic Games but he faces a serious dilemma of choosing between his sport and his video game.
Furthermore, after his disappointing swims at the Austin and Michigan Grand Prix races, Phelps needs to put more effort into his training programme so he can retain his position at the upcoming World Championships in China that precedes the 2012 London Olympics.
On the other hand, the launch of his video game is important because it is Phelps’s effort to contribute towards the promotion of his sport around the world.
While showing his keen interest in the video games, Phelps said, "I played video games growing up, Tiger Woods, Madden, and I thought, 'Maybe one day we'll be able to have a swimming video game.'" He also said, "Being able to have that opportunity, especially
on Kinect, I think it's kind of cool. It's all you doing all the motions. It's realistic, it's not cheap, it looks good. ... And it's my own video game."
In addition, Phelps is very excited about the launch of his video game and said that he will find a way to keep a balance between his tough training schedule and the efforts required to promote the video game.
