Michael Phelps wins gold in 200m backstroke at 2011 North Carolina Charlotte UltraSwim
After being placed sixth in the men’s 200m freestyle final, Michael Phelps of NBAC won the 200m backstroke title with the fastest time of 1:57.20 at the 2011 Charlotte UltraSwim in North Carolina on Sunday.
“I saw a splash out of the corner of my eye and saw the green suit, so I knew it was Ryan. I ended up with two terrible races and one halfway decent one,” said Phelps.
Due to the versatile performance in the 200m backstroke final, Phelps has jumped onto the 5th place in the world rankings.
Meanwhile, Ryan Lochte of Daytona Beach captured the silver medal with a distinctive time of 1:57.63 and moved into the 8th spot in the world rankings. On the other hand, Eric Ress of Indiana took home the bronze with a time of 1:59.98 in the
respective meet Sunday.
Phelps was not looking very satisfied with his overall performance in the competitive swimming in the Charlotte UltraSwim. However, his coach Bob Bowman said that they have not really been up to the mark in the championship but their focus is on the upcoming
FINA World Championships in Shanghai in July 2011.

of 2:14.80.
“After a week off, we we've working hard, adding more yardage, swimming longer stuff. As the World Championships get closer, I wanted to be swimming faster and faster as this meet went on. I felt I was slow on the first day here,” said Hosszu.
In the men’s 200m IM final, Eric Shanteau took home the golden crown with a winning time of 1:59.82 and moved into the 15th spot in the world rankings.
