Michael Pineda looking to become an ace with New York Yankees – MLB News
Yankees pitching coach stated that he is glad to have Michael Pineda in the pitching line-up. Pineda is one of the brightest pitching prospects in the game right now. Last season, he displayed some high quality pitching skills to help the Seattle Mariners secure memorable wins.
The guy has produced match winning performances since making his Major League Baseball debut. Still very new to MLB, the 23-year-old finished the past season with a decent 9-10 win-loss record with a 3.74 ERA. Striking out 173 batters in 171 innings, the right handed flame thrower looked on top of his game in 2011.
Pineda is considered to have the best slider and fastball in baseball right now. Yankees’ pitching coach, Larry Rothschild believes that he has what it takes to become an ace. Although he gave decent results last season, he is yet to realise his immense potential. Rothschild will be working hard with the starter to get the best of him this year.
"It's a good trade for both teams. ... Jesus is a guy who has a lot of power and a lot of potential and is going to help out their team a lot," Rodriguez said. "... For us, we get exactly what we need -- one of the best young pitchers in the game with an electric arm and great size."
“He’s a young kid with a nice arm and he has a year of experience now, so I think it’s good to have him here,” Rothschild said. “Those are the kinds of guys you really like to work with."
In addition to his pitching abilities, Pineda has a great learning attitude. He has the desire to do well in each game and if he continues to work with Yankees’ coaching staff, he will have a great opportunity to develop his game to the next level. With more experience, he is only going to get better and more expensive. The move can pay dividends for the Yankees, who struggled with their pitching lineup last season. Pineda, on the other hand, will be hoping to make the most of available opportunities.
