Michael Pineda looking to polish his pitching with New York Yankees – MLB News
Michael Pineda produced some great performances last year. In his first big league season, he displayed some high quality pitching skills to help the Seattle Mariners secure unforgettable wins.
With a decent 9-10 win-loss record and a healthy 3.74 ERA, he made the most of available opportunities. Striking out 173 batters over just 171 innings, the flame throwing pitcher looked on top of his game play past season. The 23-year-old was recently traded to New York Yankees where he will be looking to polish his game play.
“It’s a tremendous team, with good pitching. It’s very exciting for me — for the first time in my life, I’ll have the pleasure of playing with Alex Rodriguez, a huge star, and Derek Jeter, one of the most well-known players ever. And Mariano Rivera, (Robinson) Cano, (Mark) Teixeira, Rafael Soriano,” Pineda said.
“The Yankees, they are known for making the playoffs almost every year,” he further added.
New York Yankees, on the other hand, have made some good moves to power their pitching lineup, which struggled to achieve the desired results in 2011. Although C.C. Sabathia was brilliant in the regular season, he worked hard to keep the hitters quiet in the playoffs.
Looking to win the World Series title, the Yankees have also brought in Hiroki Kuroda from Los Angeles Dodgers. Kuroda has been performing consistently since he moved from the Japanese League to Major League Baseball.
With an excellent 3.07 ERA in 2011, he has a great ability to strike out the batters. Along with C.C. Sabathia and Michael Pineda, the 36-year-old will be hoping to lead the pitching pack for Yankees this season.
The stage is set for Michael Pineda to prove the baseball world what he is capable of. He has already started to train with the Yankees’ coaching staff. In addition to his throwing skills, the guy has great desire to learn new tricks.
Pineda has the best fastball in the game right now and if he can pitch with more and control and accuracy, he will have a great chance to secure a permanent spot in the Yankees' roster.
