Michael Pineda out for the full season – MLB New York Yankees Update
New York Yankees faced yet another setback as they announced that Michael Pineda is likely to miss the entire season due to an anterior labral tear in his right shoulder. The right handed pitcher is one of the most talented pitchers in the Major League Baseball
right now.
In his first big league season last year, Pineda pitched with great control and accuracy to make a name for himself. Showing his composure, physical strength and concentration, the starter earned an impressive 9-10 record and 3.74 ERA. Striking out 173 batters
with just 55 walks in 28 starts, he finished fifth in the voting for American League Rookie of the Year Award.
In an interview, Yankees’ General Manager Brian Cashman stated that the injury occurred on the final throw of players’ rehab appearance. Pineda did not make a very bright start to the season but he is one of those players who can bounce back anytime. His
absence will provide opportunities to other starting pitchers in the line up to prove their mettle.
"In no way do I believe the Seattle Mariners had any knowledge of any issue prior to the trade," Cashman said. "We got a fully healthy player. We looked at all the medical files. It's an unfortunate circumstance. I think it's fair to speculate there was something
dormant, something small (before Saturday), but the MRI (exam) at the trade was clean and the MRI (exam) in March was clean."
"We are pitching-deep, but like everything else, some of our guys have to get better," he further added. "We have to get guys on track at the major-league level and (at) Triple-A."
Many national baseball writers and analysts consider Pineda an asset for the Yankees. Not only is he strong but he also has the ability to deliver the goods in pressure situations. New York will have to dig in deep to find a suitable replacement for him
now.
According to a leading sport website, Pineda is expected to have a arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder next week in an effort to repair the tear but Yankees team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad is convinced that Pineda will be unable to make a comeback
this season.
